Special
Needs Education is provided to children with learning barriers in
order to enable them to access education services.
Children with
barriers to learning include orphans, children with disabilities,
children living with HIV and AIDS and those from low-income households.
In recognition of the children’s rights to education, Tanzania provides
education through various placement options including: special
residential and day schools; special units integrated in regular
schools; itinerant/ peripatetic teaching (mobile teaching) programmes
and inclusive education. Through the aforementioned placement options,
improvement of special Needs Education has been made in the areas access
